| Important - TRAI Update: Mandatory Variable Tagging for SMS Templates on DLT |
This is regarding important regulatory update issued by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), which is for SMS template registration on the DLT platform. As per the latest TRAI direction and communication from operator's, all Principal Entities, at the time of registration of content templates which contain variables, must mandatorily label the variables under appropriate tags. The variable tagging has been introduced to curb any misuse of the variable placeholders. What’s Changing? All variable fields used in SMS templates must now be pre-tagged with a defined “Tag” and purpose. Only the data type permitted by the selected tag can be populated at the time of submission of SMS. Examples of approved variable tags: Action Required :- 1. Ensure that all new SMS templates are created with mandatory pre-tagged variables. This feature is live across all operator DLT portals. Please click here to refer to the user manuals. 2. Existing SMS templates must be updated to comply with the mandatory variable tagging guidelines once the respective operator enables and confirms the modification process. Netcore will keep you informed as and when this facility becomes available. Please be informed that our platform already supports the new pre-tagged variable format. The concerned team is actively working on any required system enhancements and will share timely updates as needed. Note: Currently, there is no impact on SMS delivery for any message type, as operator-level scrubbing is not yet live. This will be implemented in due course.
